The Women’s Crisis Center is a non-stock, non-profit private institution in the Philippines with a firm commitment to end violence against women and to work towards a just and humane society. It is the first ever crisis center in the Philippines for women survivors of battering, rape, incest, sexual harassment, prostitution, and sex trafficking.
The Women’s Crisis Center is rooted in the resurgence of the women’s movement in the Philippines in the 80’s. Active organizing of women encouraged the discussion of women’s experiences of all forms of violence which otherwise would have remained private and unrecognized.
From there, a group of women deeply concerned with the violence that pervades women’s lives committed themselves to respond to the issue.
On February 19, 1989, the Women’s Crisis Center was formally established. It is the first and only crisis center in the Philippines which offers a comprehensive range of crisis intervention services for survivors of gender-based violence. It also introduced the radical concept of feminist counselling in the country.
