More than 1,300 runners joined On Your Mark: The Draw the Line Run-for-a-Cause held last April 13 at the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig. People of all ages, from three-year old Anthony Joshua Gotian to 75-year old Marcelo Pena, participated in the 5-kilometer and 10-kilometer races to raise funds for the Women’s Crisis Center at East Avenue Medical Center, Quezon City.
On Your Mark was organized by the Draw the Line campaign, which encourages women to stand up for their rights and “draw the line against abuse”. The campaign is spearheaded by the service-oriented TV program “Women’s Desk”, hosted by Rhea Santos and aired on QTV channel 11 every Thursday at 10 to 11 pm. So far, the show has helped rescue over 200 women and their children from abusive relationships.
The event raised a total of PhP195,900, which will be used to care for survivors of abuse in the WCC temporary shelter, and to support the education of abused children. “We are so grateful to the runners and even the non-runners who took part in this. This will be a big help for the survivors of abuse and for their children,” said WCC executive director Eden Bonagua Parot.
Winners took home trophies and cash prizes. Certificates were also given to the oldest and youngest runners, while the award for biggest delegation went to the Mariners’ Running Club. Ten lucky participants also won gift certificates worth PhP2000 in the raffle. The event was hosted by Paulo Abrera and Rhea Santos.
